Here’s how we create your custom form using a smartphone scan.
We’ve drawn on our 20+ years experience in the software business to create a specialized processing pipeline that turns your videos into a 3D digital snapshot of the person scanned. To transform it into a traditional dress form bodice, we hand edit each digital body model. We take extra care to stay as true as possible to the body’s actual shape, unique stance, and orientation in relation to the floor for mounting.
Here’s a finished edited model of one of our clients who graciously gave us permission to share it with you. Feel free to spin it around, noting its unique asymmetries that all bodies have.
Once you’ve approved your 3D digital model online, we cut the bodice out of foam using a cutting machine called a CNC (Computer Numeric Controlled) router.
After the forms come out of the machine in the workshop, they’re ready to be assembled and covered. We hand finish and cover each form to measure for a good fit. It’s important to us that we personally prepare each form for delivery, check each stand and make sure things are just-so before they depart our workshop for your workroom.
While dress forms are technically just a tool, ours are special because they are created in the shapes of actual real people. It follows that we employ a lot of care and respect when finishing your forms.
